Science Olympiad:
An after-school team activity, Science Olympiad is one of the nation’s most prestigious and rigorous competitions of science, technology, engineering and math. At both the state and national level, Science Olympiad teams compete in more than two-dozen scientific and engineering challenges on topics ranging from human health, ecology, chemistry, cell biology, geology and engineering. Awards are given for the best overall team score and individual scores in each event. In 2011, the University of Wisconsin-Madison hosted the National Science Olympiad competition, which drew more than 6,000 students, parents and coaches from 47 U.S. states.

In order for this to happen,  the club needs 9-10 Parent volunteers to coach the 6 technology/science/math focused modules for the MSR SO team.  Additionally, ALL parents of team members are expected to support and assist the coaches and team events, including Science Fun day.

  • SO teams begin in 3rd grade, and are active at most area elementary schools
  • Competitive and noncompetitive teams are formed, no more than 16 kids per team
  • Science Fun day, hosted at MSR to involve all students and encourage support for the MSR team

At one time or another, we have all felt ourselves getting caught up in everyday tasks, as we try and find our way through another week. Getting through all of life’s hurdles that it throws at us, can sometimes be very challenging.

Do you know a mom that has been doing her best to struggle through and balance daily life? Or do you know a mom that really stands out in everything that she does, making our community better each and every day?

Either one can be nominated for Mom Of the Month, so help us celebrate a special mom in our community!

Please nominate someone by completing a few lines on our nomination forms, and drop them in our Mom Of the Month box at the front of the school or email it to, subject line: Mom of the Month.

Each month we will announce a nominee, who will also have special recognition in our newsletter. Let our Montessori Moms know how much we appreciate everything they are doing and/or accomplishing!

The Mom Of the Month (M.O.M) is not a competition or a contest. It is merely to celebrate and/or recognize the hard working moms in our school community.
